Conor McGregor could be a WWE superstar in the near future.

The former two-division UFC champion has teased fans on social media regarding a potential move into the billion-pound professional wrestling organisation.

This follows McGregor’s response to a fan saying he didn’t need ‘to come back to UFC or fighting in general’ in a now-deleted X post that said: “Ya know that, you’re right, good bye.”

‘The Notorious’ prompted confusion among fans online as they wondered if the Irishman had called it quits in MMA.

And now it seems like McGregor is stirring the pot even further with his cheeky message to one of WWE’s most recognised superstars.

On Monday he shared a slip of MMA journalist The Schmo sharing a glass of whiskey with WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.

“The Schmo and the undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes enjoying themselves some smooth Proper Whiskey! Class personified! Love it Cody see you soon,” McGregor said on X.

The Schmo had filmed a video with Rhodes on his YouTube channel where the latter said he was eager to see McGregor ‘just dip his toes in the water with WWE’.

One fan reacted to the post on X, saying: “So this means you will be at Crown Jewel?”

WWE’s Crown Jewel 2024 event takes place on November 2 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and has previously witnessed a host of celebrity appearances.

The pay-per-view show was established in 2018 as part of a 10-year partnership between Triple H’s WWE and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

This was in support of Saudi Vision 2030, a government initiative that aims to increase diversification economically, socially and culturally.

D-Generation X (Shawn Michaels and Triple H) faced the Brothers of Destruction (Kane and The Undertaker) in the inaugural Crown Jewel event in 2018.

Youtuber-turned-professional wrestler Logan Paul headlined the 2022 card alongside Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal title.

Even Cristiano Ronaldo was linked to make an appearance at last year’s Crown Jewel following his move to Al Nassr, but the deal never crossed the line.

We have also seen some wild combat sport crossovers at previous Crown Jewel events.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez took on his ex-foe and established WWE superstar Brock Lesnar at Crown Jewel 2019.

That event also witnessed former WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury take on fellow brute Braun Strowman.

Rumours have circulated in the professional wrestling community that the likes of John Cena, Goldberg and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson could make a shock appearance at this year’s Saudi show.

But with the help of Rhodes there may also be room for a surprise feature from ‘The Notorious’ himself.

McGregor hasn’t made an octagon appearance since suffering an ankle injury in his trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.

The Irishman had a comeback fight booked with American Michael Chandler, but pulled out after he injured his toe in training.

Chandler now fights Charles Oliveira at UFC 309 on November 16 in a five-round co-main event.

That fight is headlined by Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic as the former defends his UFC heavyweight belt in what could be the pair’s final octagon appearance.
