John Daly marked the new year in his typical eccentric fashion.
The golf legend, who is well-known for his antics both on and off the course, shared a video of himself smashing a drive over the street while smoking a cigarette.
Watching for traffic as his gold shoes glinted in the street lights, the 58-year-old set himself before hitting the ball into the night sky.
Those watching on cheered and high-fived the golfer after his effort.
“Teein’ it into 2025… Happy New Year,” the video, posted on Daly’s Instagram account, was captioned.
It was soon re-posted across social media, with plenty of fans reacting to his latest antics.
“Geez, he can hit a ball,” one person said.
“He might be the coolest guy alive,” another wrote, while a third joked: “See ya later twenty twenty FORE!”
“If I saw John Daly hitting balls on the sidewalk while I’m driving by, I would pull over and ask him to hit one at my car then sign the dent,” a fourth person concluded.
Daly, a two-time major champion, also shared footage of his other celebrations, which included downing drinks alongside friends and his 21-year-old son, John II.
His New Year’s Eve antics shouldn’t come as much of a shock, given there are plenty of wild stories about the remarkable winner of the 1991 PGA Championship.
Daly has been open about his battle with addiction and has also been known to indulge in a dodgy diet that includes plenty of junk food and Diet Coke, but it’s his relationship with gambling that has made the most headlines.
He lost almost $55million through gambling over a 16-year period, and reportedly blew $1.65m in five hours after he squared off with Tiger Woods in a playoff match at the WGC-American Express Championship in 2005.
Woods emerged victorious at the tournament, as he did against most golfers at the time, but Daly was devastated.
He travelled to Las Vegas with a $750,000 check in hand for finishing in second place, but blew $600,000 in less than 30 minutes.
The casino eventually gave him credit, but he reportedly lost $1.65m in five hours gambling over a number of games.
Daly also calculated that he had smoked up to 18,000 cigarettes a year while on tour (based on two to three packs a day) after picking up the habit aged 19.
In 2024, he revealed that he had been known to drink 12 to 20 cans of Diet Coke a day, because he hates water.
“Some of the guys call me camel, because I never drink water on tour,” he said at the time, adding that he could also eat two McDonald’s Big Mac burgers, two or three cheeseburgers and a chocolate milkshake each day.
