Coventry v Burnley prediction

Burnley make the trip to the Coventry Building Society Arena on Saturday lunchtime for what is probably the Championship’s standout match of the weekend on the back of a 26 match unbeaten run.

Scott Parker’s side have lost only two of their 39 league games this season, with their 1-0 win over play-off chasing Bristol City leaving them unbeaten in the league since their first game of November, and crucially saw them draw level with the automatic promotion places.

Only goal difference now separates the Clarets from the top two, while they remain just two points off the top of the table, with and boast a ridiculous defensive record of 28 clean sheets in 39 league games

The Lancashire side boast the second best record away from home in the second tier, unbeaten in their last league 12 games on the road ahead of their trip to the West Midlands on Saturday lunchtime.

Coventry’s run of six wins in their last seven games came to an abrupt end at Bramall Lane last weekend as Frank Lampard’s side were beaten 3-1 at the home of the league leaders, which now leaves them with defeats in two of their last three games.

The Sky Blues will be looking forward to playing back in front of their home fans after consecutive defeats on the road, and return to the Coventry Building Society Arena having lost there only once in the league since November, and with seven wins in their last eight games there against Championship opposition.

Only three teams have won more home games than Coventry in the league this season, the West Midlands side sat fifth in the table with a two point cushion above the chasing pack for the play-offs as they seek promotion to the Premier League for the first time since their relegation from the top flight in 2001.

Burnley will be high on confidence and have the top two well in their sights after Leeds’ dropping of points last week, and will fancy themselves at picking up all three points against a Coventry side whose strong recent form has stuttered slightly in recent weeks – I’m expecting a 1-0 away win.

The Clarets have conceded only 11 goals in the league this season from 39 matches, breaking all sorts of records for the tightest defence in the second tier, and bagged their seventh 1-0 win of the season on the weekend.

Josh Brownhill, despite playing the majority of the season as part of a double pivot in the heart of midfield, is Burnley’s top scorer in all competitions this season, with only two Championship players having scored more goals than the Clarets captain in all competitions this campaign.

Brownhill’s midfield partner Josh Cullen is the most booked player on either team ahead of Saturday lunchtime’s bout, with eight to his name.
