Coventry v West Brom prediction

Sixth plays seventh in the Championship on Friday afternoon in a ginormous match in the race for the play-off places, with three points separating them either side of the all-important top six before a ball is kicked on Good Friday.

Coventry head into the Easter weekend in the sixth and final play-off place as they hunt for a return to the Premier League for the first time since their relegation in 2001.

Frank Lampard took over the West Midlands side at the end of November with the club just two points above the relegation zone and now has taken them into the play-offs after a barnstorming run of nine wins in 10 matches.

Since that run came to end, the Sky Blues have only won two of their last six matches, though they have played three of the top four sides in the division in that stretch, and will be desperate to get back to winning ways on Friday to open up what could be a six point gap with just three games to play.

Lampard’s men have won just one of their last four matches but have won five of their last six games in front of their home fans, while only Leeds and Sheffield United have won more home games than the Sky Blues in the second tier this season.

West Brom make the short trip across the West Midlands having got back to winning ways in their last outing in another play-off six pointer with Watford, ending a run of five games without victory and three consecutive defeats.

Lat weeekend’s win saw Tony Mowbray’s side hop back into seventh place, where they now trail their Friday opponents by just three points, which a much stronger goal difference than, meaning a win would almost guarantee them a place in the top six.

The Baggies’ final three matches of the season are against three of the current bottom four, which could be beneficial with them being far weaker sides on paper, though with the relegation dogfight looking like going down to the wire just as much as the play-off chase, they could prove tough opponents as they fight for their lives to stay in the division.

West Brom have won their last four matches against Coventry though I expect the latter to get the win on Friday with their very strong home record of late combined with West Brom’s run of three defeats in four games – I’ll predict a 2-1 home win.

Coventry v West Brom bet builder

Coventry to win and both teams to score, Jack Rudoni to score, Ebou Adams to be carded – 33/1 with Betfred

Coventry have won five of their last six home games, with only two teams having won more at home all season in the second tier, while West Brom haven’t won away from home in 14 matches dating all the back to early November.

Jack Rudoni is Coventry’s highest goal contributor this season following his summer signing from Huddersfield with 19 goals and assists to his name, which includes three goals in his last six appearances.

No player available for selection on Friday for either team has received more yellow cards than West Brom’s Callum Styles this season, who picked up his ninth of the campaign in the Baggies’ defeat to Sunderland at the start of the month.
