Uganda Cranes coach Paul Put wants his charges to react after an abysmal show in the 2-0 defeat to South Africa at Mandela National stadium, Namboole.

The Belgian who guided the Cranes back to Afcon after missing out on the last two editions admitted the performance was disappointing and that is not what he expected from his team.

“We knew it was going to be a tough game. But the way we played this match, I didn’t expect as everything we did in training was good but today there was nothing good,” Put told reporters.

“In the first half, we didn’t give away too much chances but we also didn’t create as there was no movement, we were losing a lot of balls,” he added.

“In the second half, we asked players to be more aggressive, open the flanks but if you give such a goal away against a quality of South Africa, it’s tough. I warned them that we are playing against a side that has been at Afcon and we have to be on top but unfortunately, the performance was disappointing.”

Uganda play Congo on November 19 in the final round and the aim will be to finish the campaign on a winning note.

“We have three days and then we face Congo, so I hope that we can give our people a good result because I am really ashamed of this performance today.”

To finish top, Uganda must beat Congo in Brazzaville and hope South Africa falter at home against South Sudan.
