Hong Kong China Tri-Series | Finals Match Summary

  • Hong Kong China 234 (49.2 overs)
  • Uganda 166 All Out (42.2/50 overs)
  • Hong Kong China won by 68 runs

Cricket Cranes failed to get past hosts Hong Kong China in the final of the Tri-Series, a tournament in which Bahrain also featured.

Uganda won the toss and elected to bowl first, putting the early markers on the hosts and reducing them to 17/2 with Dinesh Nakrani (1/35), Juma Miyagi (2/55) and Cosmas Kyewuta (3/45) bowling well in a collective effort of six wickets.

However, Anshy Rath (107) notched up the only century of the series as he carried the team even with wickets falling around him.

Hong Kong China piled on 234 in 49.2 overs, a great total on a difficult batting surface. Frank Nsubuga, Fred Achellam and Joseph Baguma were given a rest for the game with Cyrus Kakuru given an extended run for his half-century in the win against Bahrain.

In the run chase, the Cricket Cranes were on the ropes at 33/3 with Robinson Obuya, Shrideep Mangela and Cyrus Kakuru back in the dressing room early.

Kenneth Waiswa tried to hang around with Raghav Dhawan (37) but a loose shot was his downfall with Riazat Ali Shah following him in a short spell.

A 52-run partnership between Dhawan and Dinesh Nakrani (49) pushed the envelope from 52/5 to 112/6 before the former departed. The tail tried to wag for a bit but with six wickets lost, there was little recovery for Uganda who eventually folded for 166 inside 43 overs.

It was a rare failure with the bat for the Cricket Cranes but also an indication of things to come, especially the versatile pace of Nasrulla Rana (5/29) that troubled the Cricket Cranes. Rana has picked up 10 wickets in a space of 2 days which is a sign that there is something for the pace bowlers especially if you can hit the good areas.

The Cricket Cranes are still struggling to build from the top order but they will have at least five days to think about the details before their first game against Bahrain when the Challenge League starts on February 7.
