Crystal Palace v Brighton prediction

A Matheus Franca stoppage time goal rescued a point for Crystal Palace against bottom of the table Southampton on Wednesday to keep their unbeaten streak alive and extend it to seven games, with only two losses in all competitions since the turn of the year.

The Eagles form has seen them climb miles away from a relegation battle they looked set to be a part of early in the season, and now sit just seven points behind Saturday’s opponents, with a game in hand, in an expected European qualification spot.

As for Brighton, The Seagulls suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of a ruthless Aston Villa side. Second half strikes from Marcus Rashford, Marco Asensio and Donyell Malen gave the Villains a flattering 3-0 win which allowed them to leapfrog Brighton into seventh.

Following a six game winning streak, Brighton are now without a win in three including a loss on penalties to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup quarter-finals last weekend, leaving a strong league finish the only opportunity to qualify for Europe in any capacity next season.

Crystal Palace were victors in the last meeting between the two, a brace from Ismaila Sarr and another from former loanee Trevoh Chalobah was enough to prevent Marc Guehi’s late own goal from causing much concern. That win was Palace’s first in seven attempts against Brighton, though the Eagles have not won over their rivals at Selhurst Park since April 2018.

Crystal Palace forward Ismaila Sarr has scored four goals in his last four appearances taking his season total to nine goals in all competitions. The senegalese international also put two past Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen when the two went head to head in December.

Six of the last 11 M23 derbies have ended in a 1-1 draw, and only Everton (13) have racked up more draws in the Premier League this season than either Brighton (11) or Crystal Palace (10).
