Daniel Dubois isn’t particularly keen on the idea of defending his belt against Derek Chisora.

‘Del Boy’ is ranked No.2 by the IBF, and on April 22, he will be made Dubois‘ mandatory challenger.

The IBF will grant an exemption to allow a four-belt shootout with Oleksandr Usyk to come first.

But if both parties are unable to reach an agreement, then a domestic dust-up with Chisora will be ordered instead.

Dubois’ trainer, Don Charles, who also led Chisora into battle for 38 of his 49 pro fights, is against the idea of his current and former pupils squaring off due to the 14-year age gap between the pair.

“I wouldn’t like to see this fight for a lot of reasons,” he told talkSPORT.

“There is a lot of mileage on the clock to face off against a human being who is in his physical prime. I wouldn’t want to see that for Derek.”

Dubois is the reigning IBF heavyweight champion and is in his physical prime at 27, while Chisora is 41 and one fight away from retirement.

‘Triple D’ is of a similar mindset to his coach and has his sights set on sterner tests, although he would entertain a fight with Chisora if it came down to it.

“I’m not really interested [in the Chisora fight] like that, but sure, why not?” he told Ring Magazine.

“You know, I’m more up for Parker, Usyk and AJ, those guys, the top names. But I guess take him on as a comeback fight or something.

“[The Parker fight] is unfinished business. I’d have to do that and get that out of the way to shut some people up.

“But if a bigger shot against Usyk comes first, then I’ll do that.”

The Usyk fight is the one Dubois and his promoter, Frank Warren really want.

Usyk knocked out Dubois in August 2023, but only after the Brit landed a shot that divided fans.

Some say that the punch, which floored Usyk for several minutes in the fifth round, was a legal body shot and should have counted, while others insisted it strayed low.

Either way, the referee deemed it was illegal and allowed Usyk to recover and come back to get his hand raised.

“Definitely July, a big fight in July against Usyk. That’s what I want,” Dubois continued.

“There’s talks, negotiations happening behind the scenes, the two teams are going back and forth…

“I’ll be the man to stop him, I just see it.”
