Daniil Medvedev is set to be slapped with another massive fine for his antics at the Australian Open.
The Russian tennis ace crashed out in the second round on Thursday to world no.121, Learner Tien.
Medvedev was beaten in a five-set epic by the 19-year-old American, losing the championship tie-break in the deciding set 10-7.
During the defeat, the 2021 US Open champion smashed his racket, and is set to incur a $50,000 (£41,000) fine in the process.
The incident raises his total fine amount for the tournament to $150,000 (£123,000) after a similar moment in the first round.
Medvedev needed five sets to beat Kasidit Samrej earlier this week to reach the second round.
Before wrapping up victory, though, the world no.5 smashed his racked into the net camera, damaging both.
Grand Slam rules carry a $50,000 fine for each instance of breaking a racket or equipment.
Speaking after his first round win, Medvedev had explained: “What I have to say is the camera was very, very strong.
“My racket didn’t handle the damage but the camera did.
“When I saw the racket I was like, ‘time to get a new one’. I hope the fine is not too big – I don’t think GoPros are that expensive.”
Medvedev’s fines are set to cost him more than the prize money he won in Melbourne.
By reaching the second round, the 28-year-old pocketed $124,000 (£101,000) from the tournament.
However, his $150,000 in fines could still rise if he is further charged with unsportsmanlike conduct.
Such a breach of the Grand Slam rules carries a $100,000 (£82,000) penalty to take Medvedev’s total fines to double his Australian Open prize money.
Fortunately for the tournament’s fifth seed, his 20 career titles have helped him accumulate over $45million in winnings on court.
Medvedev will not be repeating his heroics in Melbourne from 12 months ago, though.
Last year’s event saw him reach a third final in Australia, only to be beaten once again, this time by Italy’s Jannik Sinner.
