Dimitar Berbatov made a hilarious prediction after Fulham’s dramatic comeback victory against Brentford.
The Bees took any early lead on Monday night through Vitaly Janelt, and looked to be taking all three points back from Craven Cottage going into stoppage time.
But Fulham‘s Harry Wilson had other plans, as he struck twice in the space of five minutes to turn the game on its head at the death and earn his side a 2-1 win over their west London rivals.
Unsurprisingly, Fulham’s players, manager Marco Silva and all the fans inside the ground let their passion burst out as they soaked in netting a winner in the seventh minute of added time.
And over in the Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football studio, ex-Cottagers striker Berbatov, now 43, summed that mood at Craven Cottage up in an… unexpected way.
After analysing the winning goal and watching the reaction of Silva and his players, Berbatov took a brief pause.
He then said: “Well, I tell you something. This is the type of game where, after the game, babies are made guys.”
At first, his co-pundit Jamie Carragher and host David Jones couldn’t believe what they’d just heard.
The pair soon burst out laughing, while Berbatov kept his hands in his pockets and smiled as if he’d just made an observation about something mundane like the weather.
“On that note, let’s take a break!” Carragher joked.
Jones added: “I wasn’t expecting that one!”
Fans on social media had to check they’d heard what Berbatov said correctly, too.
One wrote on X: “Absolutely superb comment from Dimi Berbatov.”
“Look forward to this clip resurfacing end of July or early August of a Fulham player announcing the birth of their child,” another quipped.
Meanwhile, other supporters hailed his appearance and the insight he gave on the show.
A third said: “Dimatar Berbatov has hands down just delivered the best guest performance of any Monday Night football I’ve ever seen.”
Berbatov reacted just like a Fulham fan when Wilson’s second went in too, with footage showing him running around the studio in celebration.
He played for the Cottagers between 2012 and 2014 after signing from Manchester United.
The Bulgarian made 54 appearances for the club, scoring 20 goals and grabbing four assists.
And although he won the Premier League twice with Man United, it’s clear he has a lot of love for Fulham.
Spells with Monaco, POAK and Indian side Kerala Blasters followed his time at Fulham, before he retired in 2018.
