Dwayne Johnson has done hundreds of interviews around the world but he’ll never forget his run-in with Tubes on Soccer AM.
The Rock appeared on the hit Sky Sports show in January 2008 to promote his film The Game Plan where he appeared on a star-studded couch with boxing legend Evander Holyfield.
The Rock and Evander Holyfield got more than they bargained for with TubesSky Sports: SoccerAM
Presented by Helen Chamberlain and now-talkSPORT Drive host Andy Goldstein, Soccer AM was renowned for it’s irreverent comedy and that often led to awkward and hilarious moments with their celebrity guests.
In an iconic segment of the show, ‘reporter’ Tubes would get the chance to ask a question to one of the show’s guests – often leading to uncomfortable laughter due to his purposefully unprofessional demeanour.
After being introduced, Goldstein asked if he’d had a busy week, to which Tubes said: “Really busy.”
He was then asked what he’d been busy doing, with Tubes replying: “Worrying about this.”
Unsuprising given that he would be potentially aiming a tricky question at either a wrestler, a boxer, a tough-tackling footballer in Julian Dicks, or even TV hardman Tamer Hassan.
Tubes then declared that his one question that week was to be directed at Johnson, which led the lights to dim and a spotlight to shine on the wrestling legend to nervous laughter.
Tubes then broke into a freestyle rap, saying: “I’m in love with Trevor Brooking, can you smell what the Tubes is cooking? It doesn’t matter what the Tubes is cooking!”
His rap attracted cheers and applause from the live studio audience, while Goldstein was seen with his head in his hands with laughter.
The camera then cut to Johnson, who was smiling and applauding after his legendary WWE catchphrase was recreated in front of him.
Once the studio went quiet, Tubes then muttered: “People’s eyebrow,” before imitating the Rock’s trademark move in front the awkward-looking wrestling legend.

“Am I supposed to respond?” asked a baffled Johnson.
Tubes went on: “You’re a great bloke – what I want to know is what gives you more satisfaction – being a Hollywood actor and a massive movie star or a champion of wrestling?”
Trying to restore a degree of professionalism to the interview, Johnson gave a thoughtful answer and said: “I love making movies but I’ve got to say that, just like here, there’s nothing like a live audience.
“Whether it’s 50 people or 100 people here or whether it’s 50,000 – Evander can attest to that – there’s nothing like a live audience.”
Tubes then replied: “So, wrestling then?” with Goldstein and the studio audience bursting into laughter at the abrupt nature of his reply.
Tubes then shook Johnson’s hand and walked away, with the Hollywood megastar clearly left wondering what on earth had just happened.
Now 52, Johnson has conquered Hollywood and recently returned to the WWE on a part-time basis where he regularly conducts interviews to promote his entertainment work.
But The Rock will never face an interviewer like Tubes again, at least he hopes he won’t.
