After eight months and seventeen league matches, Eddie Suits and Turf Today were crowned winners of the Green Park Premier League in the open and 35+ categories respectively.
Team Eddie Suits won the open category which ran for the second season after claiming 39 points, dislodging No Pain, No Gain who won the inaugural season.
They finished four points ahead of second placed Amka International Real Estates while Kakyeka team finished 3rd with 34 points on the log.
In the 35-plus category, Turf Today amassed 44 points, two better than second placed The Heat Events with Ronniph Electronics claiming the bronze medal with 32 points.
Ahmed Nsale (Machete Boys) and Hilary Akampulira (Beyichini Real Estates) both 17 goals finished as the top scorers in the open category with Erias Matovu (Mustapha Classic) beating the rest of his peers with 19 goals in the 35-plus category.
Unlike the open category, the 35-plus was the inaugural season and both will continue annually.
The leagues are sponsored by among others Olive Pharmacy Uganda which are medical partners.
Green Park Stadium Super Cup
Up next will be the Green Park stadium Super Cup that kicks of February 23 and will run for one month.
Already, 13 teams have registered in the open category and are divided in 3 groups while the 35-plus division has 16 teams comprised in four groups of four.
On the day of the finals, a ceremony to celebrate winners in the Super Cup will also have individuals awarded for their achievements in both the open and 35-plus category.
About Green Park Stadium, Mbarara
The facility is located in Mbarara, Ntare just opposite the famous Ntare School.
It was established and officially opened in April 2023 and thus made one year in 2024.The playing surface has an excellent turf, spacious parking space for clients, clean dressing rooms that has washrooms and bathrooms, a prayer room for the Muslim community, saloon, restaurant and bar, washing bay as well.
