Kitman Dave Joyce was sent off during stoppage time after a scuffle broke out.

Pitch-side announcer Simon Hill has also been charged, an FA statement confirmed.

The statement reads: “Walsall’s kitman and pitch-side announcer have been charged with misconduct at their EFL League Two fixture against Crewe Alexandra on Saturday 9 November.

“It’s alleged that David Joyce and Simon Hill acted in an improper manner around the 98th minute, and both of them have until Monday 18 September to respond.”

Walsall’s 85th minute equaliser in the 1-1 draw at the Bescot Stadium was followed by heated scenes towards the end of the match.

A melee broke out near the dugouts during stoppage time after the ball went out of play and staff refused to give it back.

Joyce was sent off by referee Stephen Parkinson following the incident.

Meanwhile, Crewe manager Lee Bell and Walsall defender Liam Gordon were also booked as a result.

The draw leaves Walsall second in League Two after 14 matches.

Mat Sadler’s side are three points adrift of league leaders Port Vale, but do have a game in hand.

They will not be in action this weekend, though, after their home clash with Gillingham was postponed due to international call-ups.

Walsall will instead be back in action away to AFC Wimbledon on November 23.
