New Orleans Saints fans slammed interim head coach Darren Rizzi after he screamed at a rookie on the sidelines.

Matthew Hayball is leading the Pro Bowl voting for NFC punters after a brilliant first season.

Kamara was praised for showing his leadership skills

But Rizzi was left furious at the placement of a punt during a tight game against the New York Giants.

With the Saints trailing 9-7, Hayball’s effort was returned 56 yards to the house by Ihmir Smith-Marsette.

The return ended up being called back for a holding penalty to deny the Giants their longest play of the year.

But that did not save Hayball from Rizzi’s wrath as the coach tore into his punter.

Kamara stepped in, pushed Rizzi back by the waist, and led his teammate, who did not appear to answer back at any point away.

Fans thought the veteran rookie back showed his class, but were not happy with the interim boss.

“Kamara must be a real one for looking out for a punter,” one viewer commented on X.

“Kamara a true leader,” added another.

“Doing that to that to the rookie punter in public doesn’t sit well with me,” a third suggested.

“He’s calling a horrendous game but yells at a rookie punter,” a fourth wrote.

“Embarrassing,” stated a fifth.

Rizzi joined the Saints as a special teams coordinator in 2019 having served in the same role for the Miami Dolphins.

He was named an associate head coach in 2022 and took over as interim chief when Dennis Allen was sacked in November after a 2-7 start.

Allen was thrown under the bus by his predecessor over the handling of Kendre Miller’s injury.

The former boss was not a fan of Miller, who was activated from injured reserve for Week 14.

“Was [Miller] healthy enough to come back and play the last couple of weeks? Probably. I’m not going to sit here and lie to you,” Rizzi said ahead of the game.

Miller – acting as one of Kamara’s backups – paid Rizzi back for his faith by running in a touchdown against the Giants.

New Orleans has gone 2-1 under its new coach, who is auditioning for the full-time role.
