An unexpected former Premier League goalkeeper rubbed salt in Luis Suarez’s wounds after Inter Miami’s MLS Cup loss.
The Florida side, co-owned by ex-England captain David Beckham, lost 3-2 to Atlanta United in the play-offs on Saturday.
Miami had been expected to breeze through to the next round when Atlanta were named as their opponents after winning in the wild card round.
But the Georgia-based side stunned Lionel Messi and co as Jamal Thiare and Bartosz Slisz fired them to victory.
And ex-Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan was right in the middle of the action.
Suarez was seen complaining during the clash as tempers flared, and Guzan was spotted laughing in the former Liverpool star’s face.
The pair had been going at each other throughout the game.
When Messi headed home to make it 2-2, the Argentine and Guzan got tangled as they both went to retrieve the ball.
Leonardo Campana then purposely shoved Guzan in the back, sending him flying into the net.
As the American struggled to get himself out, Suarez came bounding over.
The forward started gesticulating at the goalkeeper, but was soon guided away from the shot stopper.
Suarez’s antics came back to bite him – no pun intended – when Slisz scored the winner just 11 minutes later to eliminate the Supporters Shield winners.
Guzan may be 40, but he was a constant thorn in Gerardo Martino’s side on Saturday.
And it wasn’t just because of his wind-up antics.
He pulled off some fantastic saves during the clash, expertly denying a header from close range when his side were 2-1 up.
Guzan played for Villa between 2008 and 2016, going out on loan once to Hull City in 2011.
He then joined Middlesbrough before moving to Atlanta in 2017.
Guzan, who has been capped 64 times at international level with the United States, won the MLS with the club in 2018.
He is the only player remaining from that league winning side at Atlanta.
