A Norwich fan enjoyed a moment he’ll never forget as he got engaged to his girlfriend, getting down on one knee on the Carrow Road pitch.

Having seen his beloved Canaries keep alive their Championship play-off hopes, Jack Garwood had the perfect day as he got engaged to his girlfriend Brandis.

Jack had been allowed onto the pitch at half time to do the club’s crossbar challenge, only to surprise Brandis with a ring.

As he got down on one knee, though, the travelling West Brom fans could be heard chanting: “You don’t know what you’re doing!”

The away end even booed after Brandis said yes and the couple embraced on the edge of the penalty area.

Footage of the proposal soon went viral on social media with fans picking up on the crowd chanting.

Reacting on X, one fan wrote: “‘You don’t know what you’re doing!’ being sung by the away end. English football >.”

Another supporter added: “The chants of ‘you don’t know what you’re doing’ are absolutely sensational.”

Meanwhile, a third also commented: “‘You don’t know what you’re doing’ from the away end is incredible. God bless English football.”

As for the couple, Jack told BBC Radio Norfolk: “She had no idea it was going to happen.

“I have no idea how I kept it quiet but I managed to – I just want to shout out the club and say thank you for being so accommodating.

“I wasn’t sure I’d be able to when I came up with the idea, but they were brilliant – what an afternoon.”

It also turned out to be Brandis’ first ever football match as she revealed: “We were going out there and I thought ‘do I have to kick this?’ because I don’t know how to kick a football.

“We’ve been together two-ish years but I was not expecting that right now.”

The couple were also gifted a five-night trip to Gran Canaria for their honeymoon by the club’s shirt sleeve sponsors, Turismo de Gran Canaria.

On the pitch, Josh Sargent grabbed a dramatic late winner for the hosts.

The American’s strike in the second minute of stoppage-time secured all three points for Johannes Thorup’s side.

Norwich’s victory cuts the gap to their opponents in sixth to just five points.
