Manchester United make the trip to Istanbul tonight have ended their five match winless run on the weekend with a 2-1 victory over Brentford last Saturday afternoon.

The win at Old Trafford relieved some of the substantial pressure on manager Erik ten Hag for his job, with United currently sat down in 12th place in the Premier League table, though are only three points off fifth in a tightly congested midsection of the standings.

Despite, the Red Devils’ lack of wins in recent weeks, it must also be pointed out they’re not losing many either, with the side heading into Turkey with just one defeat in their last eight matches, and without defeat on the road since their first away game of the season.

The club are still looking for their first win of the European campaign though, having drawn their opening two games 1-1 at home against Twente before a thrilling 3-3 draw away at Porto three weeks ago.

Standing in their way of their first win are a Fenerbahce side who themselves have lost only one of their last 11 matches in all competitions, though are winless in their last two matches following the weekend’s 2-2 draw at Samsunspor.

The late equaliser for the hosts saw Fenerbahce drop points again, which now leaves them eight points off the top of the Super Lig table behind fierce rivals Galatasaray, down in fourth place, though having played a game fewer.

The Yellow Canaries are now managed by Jose Mourinho, who comes up against the team with which he won this competition in 2017, and has stated in the build up to this game that he still has very fond memories of managing Manchester United.

Mourinho, who has won five European trophies in his managerial career, including the Champions League and Europa League/Uefa Cup twice each, has started the league phase of his first season at Fenerbahce with a 2-1 win over Union Saint-Gilloise before being held to a 1-1 draw with Twente in the Netherlands.

Man Utd and Fenerbahce have met each other on six occasions before, with each team winning three apiece. The most recent meetings came in the group stage of this competition in 2016 in the season that United went on to lift the trophy under Mourinho’s management, with each side winning their home fixture.
