FIFA Club World Cup: Four African representatives handed tough opponents

Africa’s four representatives at the newly changed Fifa Club World Cup have learnt their group opponents.

Reigning Caf Champions league winners Al Ahly of Egypt are placed in Group A with Portugal giants FC Porto, hosts Inter Miami of USA and Brazil’s SE Palmeiras.

Tunisia’s Esperance are in Group D with another Brazilian side SC Flamengo, two-time European champions and England giants Chelsea and Club Leon from Mexico.

Denis Onyango’s Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa also got a Brazilian opponent in Group F in Fluminense, German giants Borussia Dortmund and Korea’s Ulsan HD.

Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca are in Group G with England and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, Juventus from Italy and UAE’s Al Ain FC from UAE.

The top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout rounds, with the final scheduled at MetLife Stadium in New York on 13 July.
