Luis Nery let wild swinging shots fly during a chaotic face-off with opponent Kyonosuke Kameda.

Nery will make his return at super-bantamweight on home soil in Tijuana, Mexico when he will take on Japanese contender Kameda.

It will be the Mexican’s first outing since losing to pound-for-pound great Naoya Inoue, a fight during which he was stopped in six rounds by the powerful Japanese star.

But he gave a good account of himself handing Inoue the first knockdown of his career, and Nery will hope he can inflict more damage on Kameda.

Unfortunately for his rival, Nery decided to try and do exactly that before a bell had even rang.

The pair will meet on February 22 but tensions flew with over a week until their meeting as they engaged in a verbal exchange of insults.

But as they came to the front of the stage to face-off, proceedings descended into chaos.

Nery became agitated with his rival’s presence as Kameda leant his head into the face-off.

As the pair wet nose-to-nose, Nery stepped back before throwing a left hand.

It was a wild moment, but he wasn’t done there following up with a looping and wild right hand, which effectively turned into a slap.

Luckily he failed to properly connect with the frantic punches and he backed off as members of the team tried to pull them apart.

Kameda got in fighting stance and was clearly ready to settle their feud with their fists now, putting his hands up.

But luckily nothing further was thrown as a few figures who surrounded them managed to keep them apart and de-escalate the clash.

Kameda has had disciplinary issues in the past having been suspended from amateur boxing in November 2021 after abusing a referee during a fight.

Nery himself has often played a villain role in his fights, and it appears things will be no different as fight week rolls around this time around.

Fans couldn’t quite believe what they had witnessed and Nery could now face disciplinary action.

One suggested: “Ban him and pay his opponent his win purse.”

Another wrote: “Nery, he went crazy and didn’t notice!

A fan added: “Whoa!! Fine him.”

But others defended him, with one concluding: “It seems that there are many posts blaming Nery here, but Kameda is known for his provocations.

“While Nery had issues in the Yamanaka fight, his clean performance in the Inoue fight has been praised in Japan, and this time, many people in Japan are supporting Nery.”

And a fan concurred, blaming the promoter: How can you put two fighters in front of each other, encourage trash talk and theatrics and then be surprised that they fight?

“One day soon this will cost a promoter a main event.”
