Retired FIFA Referee Muhammed Ssegonga has donated 10 acres of land to the Uganda’s most successful long distance athlete Joshua Kiprui Chetegei.
Ssegonga made the announcement at Sheraton Kampala Hotel during the send-off dinner of the International Olympic on Wednesday, 23rd October 2024.
“I have always loved to appreciate someone extra ordinary for the good deeds when he or she is still. I donate 10 acres of land to our athlete Joshua Cheptegei for the great service executed” Ssegonga remarked as he handed over the original land title to Hon. Peter Ogwang, the state minister of sports.

The land donated to Cheptegei is in Nakasongola district.
Ssegonga retired as a FIFA Referee in the year 2011 after close to 8 years of diligent service where he officiated at many local and international football matches.
He officiated at two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments in 2008 (Ghana) and 2010 (Angola), including the final of the 2010 edition.
“This is appreciation to Joshua Cheptegei for the work well done for the country. The land title is here and should be transferred into his names at anytime earliest next week” Ssegonga who is now a Rotarian added.

Ssegonga is a former Uganda U-23 (Kobs) player who also played at Entebbe Works, Coffee and Nsambya.
Cheptegei is the reigning Olympic champion in the 10000 m and the reigning three-time world champion in the 10,000m.
He also won a gold medal in the 5000m and 10,000m at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and at the 2019 IAAF World cross country championships.

At the 2024 Olympics in Paris city, France; Cheptegei won gold in the 10,000, becoming the Olympic champion and setting a new Olympic record in the process.
Cheptegei is the tenth man in history to hold the 5000 m and 10,000m world records concurrently, both set in 2020.
