Friday racing tips
NEWMARKET
1.47: The Strikin Viking 4/1 (1pt)
2.25: Miss Fascinator 17/2 Each-way (1pt)
3.00: Noble Dynasty 11/4 (1.5pts)
3.35: Desert Flower 5/4 (2pts)
The Strikin Viking
Tipped Coto De Caza in July on her second start of her career and she won cosily, even twice that month as the favourite each time.
Her latest run in September also when tipped saw her come a respectable 3rd of 14 at Ayr, in listed company and could be up there for this.
The main contenders in the betting surprisingly haven’t won over 5f and have only really been seen and won over 6f, which isn’t an issue but also may not be ideal going into a race like this Group 3 Cornwallis.
Treasure Isle has won over 5f before, twice in fact including at the Curragh in listed company in August and on his second start at Naas in May.
His latest third behind Aesterius could also be considered a big step up in form too as he’s gone on to win again ahead of Big Mojo, in Doncaster’s Group 2 Flying Childers.
The Strikin Viking is unraced on anything other than 6f but arrives with the highest overall rating of 109.
But he’s yet to win since debut after two very close efforts in Group 2 contests at the Curragh and Goodwood in the summer, but may well be suited nicely to the step down in trip, having often run out of steam in the final furlong.
If he settles into his race, on what will be just his fifth start he has a much better chance than most and his form behind the likes of Henri Matisse in June is right up there.
He’s still quite unexposed and certainly over this distance so could offer more at 4/1 than other each-way chances.
Miss Fascinator
Won over this distance on the July course here and now takes on the Rowley track at Newmarket instead.
That still bodes well and this Mehmas filly looked very good even stepping down to 6f in Group 3 company at Salisbury last month placing only behind the impressive Tabiti.
Back up to 7f is a huge plus and the each-way price is even better.
Under the in-form Rossa Ryan for trainer Roger Varian, who will be hoping to find more winners towards the end of the flat season.
Good to soft ground is clearly no concern and with no forecast rain she should get some ideal conditions.
Noble Dynasty
This Godolphin gelding by Dubawi loves it here, winning four of his seven contests here, all of which have come in his last four attempts here over 7f.
He beat Nostrum in June in the Group 3 Criterion before stepping up to a Group 2 but there was clearly something amiss as he missed the start and couldn’t ever really regain a chance having to play catch up early on.
Noble Dynasty won here on the Rowley course in May too in a Class 2 handicap, while carrying 9-12.
Despite carrying 2nd top-weight he cruised home beating high-rated horses like Dark Thirty, Saint Lawrence and Lethal Levi, incredibly well.
Witness Stand is clearly in great form too, but has been denied on both his starts at Newmarket before and William Buick who is on board Noble Dynasty has a historically great strike-rate here.
Desert Flower
Desert Flower won here in August by a huge six lengths before going on to beat the reopposing January.
She won the Group 2 May Hill Stakes last month in style too over 1m, ahead of the Aidan O’Brien trained horse comfortably.
Suggesting there could be more to come from this Godolphin filly.
Tabiti may need to find a bit more in this Group 1 Fillies’ Mile, but shouldn’t be ruled out each-way or as part of an exacta with the big favourite.
