As the mid-season transfer epoch is coming to an end, FUFA Big League entity Gaddafi Football Club has pronounced self on two important players.
Winger Nelson Opiyo and defender-cum-midfielder George Kiryowa are the latest players recruited by the Entebbe based club funded by the staff association of Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC).
Opiyo is signed from Pader based third division side Pajule Lions football club whilst the experienced Kiryowa, a former Masaza cup winner with Gomba Lions signs from Police football club.
With Opiyo in Gaddafi’s ranks, he bolsters the wide options upfront with Yasir Mugume, Duncan Sseninde and Samuel Kawawa Junior all still available.
Kiryowa joins the defensive department that has veteran Savio Kabugo, Brian Enzama, Ahmed Amayo and Duncan Ssemakula.
The two players are envisaged as important signings meant to reinforce the squad size (depth) coming to the final bend of the 2024-2025 FUFA Big League season.
Gaddafi Football Club is coached by promotional specialist Allan Kabonge, a famed coach who has guided six different clubs to the Uganda Premier League.
At the end of the first round, Gaddafi won nine matches, drew thrice and lost twice to command the 15 team table standings with 30 points out of the 14 matches played.
Second placed Blacks Power is neck-to-neck with 29 points.
Calvary (25), Buhimba United Saints (23) and Onduparaka (22) complete the top five.
Three clubs will be promoted to the Uganda Premier League by the end of the season in May 2025.
Subsequently, four clubs shall be demoted to the respective regional leagues.
