Those missing Gary Lineker’s quips and puns after his final Match of the Day appearance will be able to get a top up just a few weeks later.

That’s because the former England striker has been announced as a guest speaker at Glastonbury Festival.

In November it was announced that the former Tottenham and Barcelona forward would be leaving his role as the face of the iconic BBC highlights show after a massive 25 seasons.

While the 64-year-old’s farewell will be fazed out as he continues FA Cup coverage and hosts the 2026 World Cup, he will no longer be the weekly figure of the past quarter-century.

Lineker’s final MOTD will be on May 25, when he gives up the hotseat to a trio of Mark Chapman, Gabby Logan and Kelly Cates.

And just a month later, he’ll be in Glastonbury to take part in the Silver Hayes programme.

In a press release, the festival said: “The original dance music area at Worthy Farm combines forward-thinking electronic artists across five music stages with positive action, debate, technology & design throughout the field.”

Lineker has been named among the speakers, alongside fellow England regular turned pundit, Jill Scott.

Another former Lioness, Carly Telford will be taking part, as will DJ Monki, aka Lucy Monkman who plays for Duliwich Hamlet.

Glastonbury runs from June 25 to 29 this year, but it’s yet to be confirmed on which days which speakers will be on stage.

The booking is Lineker’s second after his MOTD run comes to an end, as he will also be on a new ITV show called Assembly.

During his appearance, Lineker will field questions from people who are neurodivergent, autistic and/or learning disabled.

Glastonbury released a line-up with multiple football stars

Away from the TV screen, Lineker runs a booming podcast empire in charge of Goalhanger Podcasts.

He’s a pundit on The Rest is Football, alongside Alan Shearer and Micah Richards.

There are another 12 podcasts under the umbrella, including the chart-topping The Rest is History and The Rest is Politics.

Recently discussing his career after MOTD, Lineker told FourFourTwo: “I don’t think you’ll see me doing much football, apart from the podcast.

“I’ll do the odd thing, but I don’t think you’ll see me appearing regularly on another channel.”
