Gervonta Davis’ sequel with Lamont Roach has been pushed back from June until later in the summer.

Davis and Roach met in an all-American affair, in which the former was expected to win in routine fashion and move on to bigger things.

But Roach put on a sensational performance, with Davis even dropping to a knee in the fight, a moment which wasn’t scored a knockdown.

As a result, the judges’ scorecards read a controversial draw and Roach demanded an immediate shot at the boxing superstar.

‘Tank’ was immediately open to a second instalment and negotiations appeared to be leading to a huge showdown on June 21.

But according to renowned boxing journalist Dan Rafael, this will no longer be the case.

Premier Boxing Champions are now exploring dates for the bout to land in July or August, with no reason yet emerging for the new delay.

It is expected it will land at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas still despite the change of date, after the New York State Athletic Commission filed a request.

But Roach will still get his opportunity at a second upset story, with Davis needing to improve to blow away the challenger.

‘Tank’ was a massive favourite to win, but struggled to deal with a resilient Roach who matched him blow-for-blow.

His draw with Roach also put down a chance of him meeting YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in a mega commercial clash.

The renewed bout with Paul could well be on the cards should he retain his WBA title and win again.

Roach has no interest in letting this happen, and will be looking to upset the apple cart again.

And his father Roach Sr believes his son is able to match the best, and could even eye up a showdown with Shakur Stevenson if he wins.

“I think we saw a great Gervonta that first night,” he said.

“People can make excuses all they want, there ain’t much of an excuse.

“Gervonta did some great things in the ring but he was just in there with another great fighter.

“It’s big for both of them. So a rematch should happen. I know Gervonta wants it, we damn sure want it.

“So wait and see, hopefully something comes out soon. These are the types of fight we want [clash with Stevenson].

“Once we get to that level and fight great fighters like Gervonta, we want to stay at that level.

“Lamont wants the best fights out there. Like you said, he wants to make his legacy so we want legacy fights.

“So if that fight was to take place, we’ll be more than happy to share the ring with Shakur Stevenson.”
