Gerwyn Price has doubled down on his belief that the PDC World Championship should be hosted elsewhere.
The darts tournament has been annually held at Alexandra Palace in north London since 2008 after a previous stay at Circus Tavern in Essex.
Players across the world dream of playing at the iconic Palace, though Price has previously suggested a more worldwide outreach.
In May, he backed claims over the tournament being held in Saudi Arabia, where football and boxing has seen massive growth.
Price hinted that there would be ‘less drunken hooligans that aren’t fans’ and insisted ‘people can still enjoy themselves without alcohol’.
And speaking to talkSPORT after his 4-2 fourth round win over Jonny Clayton, the Welshman has stuck by his view of a change of scenery.
“I just think that it’s only fair for everybody else in the tournament,” he said on Matterface and Crook.
“I know the majority of players are English and it’s always been at Ally Pally but I think for the sport now, it’s full of all other nations.
“Especially over Europe, in Germany, Holland, plenty of Welsh coming through and the Scottish as well. So I think it’s only fair to the players that it gets shared around a little bit.”
Price, who won the PDC World Championship in 2021, is through to the quarter-finals for the fifth time in his career.
The 39-year-old former rugby player has been on the receiving end of jeers from crowds, though they have been abusive on occasions.
He wore ear defenders at the 2023 Worlds and nearly boycotted the last tournament, but fans have appeared to act differently towards him this year.
Price admitted after his win over Clayton that he ‘wasn’t himself’ on stage amid cheers from the crowd when he hit his winning dart.
“I’m not sure why I don’t feel the same, I don’t know if it’s because the crowd are with me rather than against me,” he told talkSPORT.
“They’ve shown me some great support this year but probably the reason why I’m still in, I haven’t played particularly well for some of the games they’ve been really right behind me and with me and got me through games.
“So, I started off really well and put myself under pressure, I probably want to win a little bit too much, it’s the biggest tournament of the year so I just really want to have a good run and hopefully lift the trophy up.
“But I can’t put my finger on why things ain’t going to plan at the minute, it’s going to plan but not the way I want it to.”
Price faces Chris Dobey on New Year’s Day, and victory could take him into a semi-final showdown against Michael van Gerwen.
