Girona vs Arsenal predictions
Sometimes the narrowest victories are the most satisfying. Arsenal certainly felt that way on Saturday, as they overcame adversity to edge out Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 in hard-fought encounter.
Mikel Arteta and his players were justifiably aggrieved by the controversial decision to send off Myles Lewis-Skelly in the first half at Molineux.
Crucially, though, they did not allow their emotions to get away from them on the pitch. Numerical parity was restored when Joao Gomes was given his marching orders in the 70th minute, soon after which Riccardo Calafiori notched the only goal of the game.
The win was not as emphatic as Liverpool’s 4-1 thumping of Ipswich Town at the same time, but it kept Arsenal in contention for the Premier League title.
With a six-point lead and a game in hand, Liverpool are the clear favourites. But for now at least, Arsenal are hanging in there.
Their attention now turns back to the Champions League, a competition in which Arsenal are also targeting glory (for what would be the first time in the club’s history). Arteta’s charges are in a strong position heading into matchday eight, even if the job is not mathematically done yet.
Arsenal sit third in the 36-team table. A top-eight finish is required to bypass the play-offs and proceed directly to the round of 16. Arsenal need a point to be sure of that.
Realistically, though, they are already through to the last 16. A three-point lead over the teams ranked between ninth and 13th is not enough alone, but Arsenal combine that with a significant goal-difference advantage.
Only a heavy defeat here would put them at risk – and even that would almost certainly not be sufficient for Arsenal to be knocked out of the top eight.
From a betting perspective, that complicates the task somewhat. Ahead of Sunday’s crunch clash with Manchester City, Arteta may be tempted to rest his main men in Spain. Alternatively, he could name a strong XI with the aim of maintaining momentum ahead of that meeting with City.
Girona, for their part, have already been eliminated. The hosts are playing for pride and pride alone at the Estadi Montilivi on Wednesday.

Girona vs Arsenal betting tips
A draw in Spain would guarantee them a place in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Arsenal to win to nil
Girona have not had much to cheer about in their maiden Champions League campaign. A record of one win and six defeats means they have been eliminated before the final round of fixtures.
The Spaniards may feel a little hard done by to have just three points to their name. Their meetings with Paris Saint-Germain, Sturm Graz, Liverpool and AC Milan were competitive, but Girona lost 1-0 on each occasion.

The same outcome is eminently possible against Arsenal. Girona have struggled to score goals in this competition, while the Gunners do not give much away at the back.
Overall, though, a safer wager is an away win to nil. Even if Arteta shuffles his pack, this resolute Arsenal team can grind out another victory.

Under 2.5 goals
There has not been a great deal of excitement in Girona’s Champions League games so far, with just 15 goals scored in their seven outings.
That works out at an average of 2.14 per game, while it is also worth noting that only two of those matches have contained more than 2.5 goals.
Arsenal’s European fixtures have been more entertaining for the most part, yet four of their seven games have featured two goals or fewer.
If Arsenal manage to get their noses in front on Wednesday, they will probably choose to protect their lead rather than chasing to extend it.
All in all, goals could be at a premium between two teams whose fate in the Champions League has already been decided.

Gabriel Martinelli to score any time
As mentioned above, it is not easy to predict what sort of team Arteta will send out this week. That makes it tough to select an anytime scorer.
Still, there is reason to believe Gabriel Martinelli will get the nod from the get-go.
Normally a left-sided player, the Brazilian has emerged as Arteta’s first-choice replacement for Bukayo Saka on the right flank following the England international’s hamstring injury.
Ethan Nwaneri’s minutes are being carefully managed after his own recent fitness issue, leaving Martinelli as the leading contender to start on the right against Girona.
The 23-year-old will pose a threat to the Spanish side’s defence throughout his time on the pitch.
