Legendary Formula 1 figure Eddie Jordan has made a passionate plea after revealing his recovery from cancer.

The former team principal turned much-loved pundit and agent made the revelation on the ‘Formula For Success’ podcast with David Coulthard.

His co-host asked about his absence from the F1 season finale in Abu Dhabi, which allowed Jordan to explain a tough time for himself and his family.

“We’ve kind of alluded to it David, over the shows. Way back in March and April, I was diagnosed with bladder and prostate cancer,” the 76-year-old began.

“And then it spread into the spine and the pelvis, so it was quite aggressive. And we’ve all heard about our wonderful friend Sir Chris Hoy, who is an absolute megastar, and he [was] coming out and talking about illness such as like what I’ve got, but he’s a far younger man.”

Jordan then went on to give some stern advice to listeners.

He continued: “This is a little message for all the anchors and everybody listening to this: don’t wait or put it off.

“Go and get tested, because in life you’ve got chances and there is so much medical advice out there and so many things that you can do to extend your lifetime. Go and do it.

“Don’t be stupid, don’t be shy. It’s not a shy thing – look after your body, guys.”

However, there was some good news, with both hosts adding that Jordan is on the mend.

Commenting on his long-time friend’s condition, Coulthard said: “It’s good to see you looking sharp given the chemotherapy and I’m sure that’s not the work of a moment and not a pleasant experience, but it’s great that you’re sharing your experience with our listeners.”

To which Jordan finished: “We’ll move on, but yes, some very dark days in there – but we pulled out of it, thankfully.”

In his comments, Jordan referred to track cycling legend Hoy, who in October revealed that he has terminal cancer starting in his prostate which had then metastasised to his bones, and there were tumours in his shoulder, pelvis, spine and ribs.

The legendary six-time Olympic cycling champion explained that the diagnosis was two to four years left to live, but maintained hope beyond that as he was responding to well to treatment and in some cases sufferers have lived up to 20 years beyond their diagnosis.

Jordan, on his part, will hopefully be back on the grid in 2025, doing what he does best and putting a smile on the faces of F1 fans.

The Irishman started out competing in motorsport in the 1970s and moved onto team management in the 1980s.

His progress ended up with his own team, Jordan Grand Prix, entering F1 in 1991 where they stayed for six years and recorded four race wins.

Jordan later became a much-loved TV pundit, and is now a successful agent, recently securing a mega money deal for legendary car designer Adrian Newey to switch from Red Bull to Aston Martin.
