The lucky hole-in-one shot at the forthcoming Kinyara Golf Open championship on the par-3-hole 7 will be dubbed as the “1 tonne swing”.
Golfers at the 26th edition of the Kinyara Golf Open have an opportunity to return home with 1000kgs of sugar, courtesy Kinyara Sugar Limited should the hole-in-one sink in.
Dubbed as “Irresistibly sweet”, the Kinyara Sugar brand is famed for its quality by customers over the years and this will be a worthy prize for successful golfer with the hole-in-one shot.
The enticing prize was officially announced during the official launch of the 2024 Kinyara sugar tournament held at Uganda Golf Club, Kampala.
“We shall be giving one tonne of sugar to that golfer with a hole-in-one at the 26th Kinyara Golf Open. This will come on hole 7. This is one hole that makes or breaks many golfers on this course” Moses Enzama, the captain of Kinyara Golf Club.
Besides the sugar, the other prizes that will be given to the exceling players will include trophies, television sets, refrigerators, cash and other goodies.
Enzama notified reporters that the tournament of great significance to the top amateur players in the gross category being part of the world amateur golf ranking stature.
“Gross players will be able to score points since the tournament is now part of the world amateur golf ranking system. The gross players will play 54 holes in three rounds and there is also a total kitty of Ug.Shs 4,000,000 to be share among the best five players” Enzama added.
Uganda national team captain Joseph “Okadda” Cwinya-ai has won the past three editions and will be eyeing for the fourth title to his name-tag.
Cwinya-ai will be in competition with other top amateurs as the reigning Uganda open champion Joseph Reagan Akena, Titus Okwong, Joseph Kasozi, Aggrey Mutaka, and a host of artisans in Masindi.
Besides the amateurs in the gross cluster, the tournament will also field professionals whose total kitty is Ug.Shs 10,000,000.
Top professionals in the country like Phillip Kasozi, Abraham Ainamaani, David Kamulindwa, Herman “Deco” Mutebi, Marvin Kibirige, Deo Akope, James Koto and others will compete.
The official launch was also attended by Kinyara Sugar Limited chief marketing manager Sekhar Veedhi, public relations officer Francis Mugerwa, Sarah Siryowe (team leader Liaison Group) and several representatives from the sponsoring insurance companies.
“The Kinyara Golf Open returns for now the 26th edition. This is a signature tournament for Kinyara club and golfers are eager to attend this tournament. We are focused towards the development of golf in Uganda.” Veedhi remarked.
Insurance companies as Sanlam insurance, ICEA Lion, MUA, UAP Old Mutual Insurance and Gold Star insurance have all pledged to support this tournament.
