Golf tourism will be at the core as the second edition of the Uganda-Kenya Coast golf tournament takes center stage at the par 72-Uganda Golf Club in Kampala.
This medal-format tourney will take center stage on Saturday, 9th November 2024 with action between Uganda and Kenya.
The official launch of this tournament was graced by Ambassador Paul Mukumbya (Consulate of the Republic of Uganda in Kenya, Mombasa), Paul Charles Rukundo (captain Uganda Golf Club), Juliet Kabonesa (member Consulate of Republic of Uganda, Mombasa) and Derrick Muhumuza – competitions and PR secretary at the Uganda golf club.
Ambassador Mukumbya expressed delight upon having this tournament in place.
“We are excited to partner with the Uganda Golf Club to promote tourism between Uganda and Kenya. After the golf, there will be a farm trip to Uganda to with a city tour within Kampala and Entebbe. We are driving from the old diplomatic agenda to a new form towards the promotion of tourism, trade and investment as we promoting destination Uganda by attracting investors to come.” Mukumbya stated.
“This tourney will be based on the concept of complementarity than competition. There are very beautiful beaches on the coast in Mombasa and Uganda is blessed with the mountain gorillas, elephants, lions and others. We targeting at promoting tourism with the entry point through golf since the golfers have reasonable disposable income and we want to tap into this market” the ambassador added.
The golf tournament will be followed by the third Uganda – Kenya Coast Tourism Conference slated for the 20th and 21st November 2024.
Uganda Golf Club captain Rukundo lauded this great initiative of the tournament that started in in Mombasa.
“I thank the Consulate of Uganda in Mombasa for coming up with this idea of a golf tournament” Rukundo noted.
“Kenya is Uganda’s biggest business partner and vice-versa. Beyond the trade, there is tourism. Golf tourism is crucial. We ought to make this a calendar event. Uganda Golf Club reciprocates with a number of clubs in Kenya as Malindi and Mombasa. We shall promote the golf tourism which also has many benefits as job creation” Rukundo added.
Over 220 golfers from Uganda and Kenya, South Africa and the visiting delegation from Ghana is expected to be part of the field.
Muhumuza, the competitions and public relations secretary at Uganda Golf Club also appreciated the partnership with the Consulate of the Republic of Uganda in Mombasa.
“Uganda Golf Club is humbled by this partnership with the Consulate of the Republic of Uganda in Mombasa. We are honoured to host this tournament as the anchor club. We expect over 220 players with the medal format of play (stroke play). The teams will also compete with a lot of prizes at stake and an exciting 19th hole experience.” Muhumuza remarked.
The tournament is organized by the Consulate of the Republic of Uganda (Mombasa), in conjunction with Uganda Golf Club, Uganda Tourism Board (Explore Uganda), Kenya Tourism Board, Magical Kenya Open team and a number of other stakeholders.
