Graham Potter is under consideration as AS Roma’s new head coach, talkSPORT understands.
The former Chelsea, Brighton and Swansea manager has made a long list to replace the disastrous Ivan Juric who was sacked after a 3-2 defeat to Bologna.
It’s also understood that claims former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is in the frame are wide of the mark.
Roma’s Friedkin Group owners, who are in talks to buy Everton, have had a year of upheaval in the dugout that began with the expensive decision to sack Europa Conference League winner Jose Mourinho in January.
Club legend Daniele De Rossi replaced him at the Stadio Olimpico and finished sixth in Serie A, but the American owners made the hugely unpopular decision to then call time on him four games into the new campaign.
Juric lasted just 12 games longer before also being sacked, and since then Roma have been linked with a whole host of huge names from the world of management, including Frank Lampard.
Potter could well be more realistic, though, having impressed at Brighton while he’s also experienced working abroad successfully with Swedish side Ostersund.
The West Midlands-born coach has been out of work for well over a year since being sacked by Chelsea in April 2023.
Seen as one of England’s biggest coaching hopes, Potter was linked with the Three Lions post which eventually went to Thomas Tuchel.
Should he instead wait for a Premier League return, talkSPORT’s Darren Bent has advised West Ham to make him their no.1 target if they decide to sack Julen Lopetegui after a woeful start to the season.
Roma could prove to be a more attractive option though, with the Italian giants in the Europa League and facing Tottenham next on November 28.
With a pause in the club football calendar due to the international break, Roma have time to find a replacement and things are moving quickly.
On Monday it appeared that former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini was the front-runner after leaving the Saudi Arabia national team, but now another international coach is in the frame.
The Rome-based Corriere dello Sport have since reported that Turkey manager Vincenzo Montella has quickly become the Friedkin’s favourite, but he would have to pay the Turkish Football Federation the final six months of his contract to make the move happen.
