And he clearly grew a lot of love for Kane during the England’s captain’s time at Spurs.
Appearing as a special guest at this year’s Ballon d’Or ceremony, Weah – who won the award after a stunning season with Paris Saint-Germain – said: “Yeah, that’s one of my players that I love.
“I’m a fan of Mr Kane. When you were playing for my team, I’m a fan. I’m a very good fan because I believe that he’s a very strong and very clever striker.
“I support the team… Tottenham, since I was a kid. I love him.”
Kane soon spoke to talkSPORT about Weah’s praise on the night.
“I know yeah!” he told White and Jordan host Jim White. “A pleasant surprise, yeah.”
Kane, who won the Gerd Muller Trophy with Kylian Mbappe, was ranked tenth in the list after an impressive campaign in Germany which saw him break a 60-year old Bundesliga record.
Ex-Bayern striker Karl-Heinz Rummenigge handed him his award, and he hailed Kane for his impact at the club, labelling him an ‘important player’.
The former Bayern goalscorer bagged 162 goals in 310 Bundesliga appearances and ranks as the club’s second highest all-time scorer behind Muller.
Asked if the German was a hero of his, Kane said: “I mean, he’s a club legend, so it’s great to spend some time with him.

“For him to present the award was a fitting tribute to FC Bayern Munich.”
“It’s my first time here at these awards, so proud of the achievement,” he said, explaining how proud he was of his Ballon d’Or ranking. “A lot of hard work and sacrifice, but as always we keep going for the next one and see what happens.
“I’m loving Munich, it’s a great city, great club and looking forward to big things.”
Manchester City’s midfielder Rodri – who has been ruled out for the season with an Anterior cruciate ligament injury – was awarded the Ballon d’Or on Monday night.
He is the first player from a Premier League team to win the award since Cristiano Ronaldo did while at Manchester United in 2008.
“Congratulations to him, a fantastic player,” Kane said.
“He had a really good season. Wishing him a speedy recovery first and foremost. Hopefully he’s back playing at a high level as soon as possible.”
