The New York Yankees face a near-impossible task in the World Series…

After going 3-0 down to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Yankees have avoided being swept the biggest stage in baseball.

The Dodgers have completely dominated the 2024 World SeriesBESTPIX

The Dodgers have dominated the Series and with Freddie Freeman starring, they are on the brink of a world championship.

But the Yankees finally turned up in Game 4 to claim a big win and now they are looking to pull off an unbelievable comeback.

But has it ever happened before? talkSPORT.com takes a look…

Has a team ever come back from 3-0 down to win World Series?

Simply put, no.

No team in MLB history has come back from 3-0 down to win the World Series.

In fact, no team has ever even pushed a Series to Game 6 after losing the first three games.

24 teams had taken a 3-0 lead in the World Series ahead of this season and of those, 21 completed a sweep in Game 4.

The last time a 3-0 advantage was pegged back to 3-1 came over half a century ago in 1970.

The Cincinnati Reds managed to force a Game 5 against the Baltimore Orioles but they did eventually lose 4-1.

The Yankees will have to make history if they want to win the World Series

A comeback from 3-0 down in the World Series is unheard of, but what about in the MLB Playoffs?

Well, that’s some more pain for the Yankees, unfortunately.

Only one team has ever completed a turnaround in the Playoffs and it was the Boston Red Sox in 2004 who beat the Yankees after going 3-0 down in the series.

So unless history is made, the Dodgers will win the World Series for the first time since 2020.

Game 5 of the 2024 World Series will take place tonight.

Things will get started at 8:08pm local time in New York which is 12:08am on Thursday morning in the UK.
