Samantha Irvin’s WWE exit has rocked the pro-wrestling business.
The hugely popular ring announcer, 35, confirmed hours before Monday’s episode of RAW that her time with the company had come to an end.
Irvin announced her departure from WWE in a shock social media postWWE
“I love you all tremendously and this does not mark the end of my art, I have a lifetime more to share,” she wrote, sharing a statement on social media.
“Thank you to every WWE fan who accepted me.”
Irvin went on to share a specials thanks to wrestlers past and present, and her fellow women in the WWE locker room.
“I have thanked you since 1989 and will continue to thank you for the rest of my days for entertaining us, for raising the bar over and over again,” she continued.
“To the women’s locker room: You are the most incredible group of people on the face of this Earth. I am beyond proud to be your colleague and friend.”
Within minutes of her statement, tributes to Irvin began pouring in from fans and fellow stars.
One person left heartbroken by the news was legendary announcer Michael Buffer.
“NO!” he wrote, adding a broken-heart emoji for good measure.
“My wife and I are so sorry to hear this as I’m sure millions of other WWE fans are. Samantha is brilliant and super professional as an announcer and her musical talents as a singer and flautist are amazing!
“All the best to her moving forward with her career and perhaps we’ll see her in future events including boxing and MMA!”
As well as wowing viewers with her ring announcing, Irvin was occasionally involved in WWE storylines, including one with her partner Ricochet who was feuding with Logan Paul.
The former Intercontinental Champion has since departed for rival promotion AEW and following Irvin’s announcement, fans were quick to question if the pair will be reuniting once again.
However, Ricochet was quick to pour cold water on that suggestion.
“Haha, she’s not coming to AEW. You can all rest easy,” he wrote on X.
While it is not yet clear where Irvin will end up, it’s expected she will be pursuing “outside projects” following her WWE departure.
“She’s got some outside projects she wants to do, apparently couldn’t come to terms with how it worked with WWE and off she goes,” Bryan Alvarez said on Wrestling Observer Radio, reacting to the news.
Irvin will not be joining partner Ricochet in AEWWWE
His co-host, Dave Meltzer, added: “She’s actually been thinking about it for a year…She wants to get more involved with her music. It was just something she had been talking about for a long, long time and finally pulled the trigger on it.”
