Meyer elucidated the methodology of work to generate the tool (handwork) with direct involvement of children through schools as well as athletes and sports administrators from sports associations and federations.

“We worked with the children to make sure that they are nurtured in gender equality, equity and diversity. We conducted studies in schools with a basketball entity “A1 Challenge” which helped to mobilize four schools with about 1200 students involved. We witnessed gradual changes among the students and the teachers reported that the skills passed on in gender, social and sports were all wholesomely appreciated. These will be implemented in the different classes as Physical Education.” Meyer explained.

“We also worked with the sports federations and associations, engaging males as champions and agents of change for gender equality. Training of trainers was also conducted for about 90 participants with three members for each of the 33 sports associations and federations involved. Henceforth a tool (handbook) was designed to have champions of gender. The copies will be sent to all federations and associations.” Meyer added.

Lydia Gloria Dhamuzungu, the assistant general secretary at the Uganda Olympic Committee rates highly this generated handbook.

“The handbook will help federations and sports associations to mainstream the gender equality in all their spheres of operations. We have some champions and agents of change whose capacity has been built. These will steer in the operations in the various federations. It would be important what Uganda Olympic Committee is doing in having a certain number of women serving on the executive board.” Dhamuzungu reasons.

Key facilitators in the project were rewarded with plaques as the Trainers also received certification.
