Ed Quigley, aka ‘Longshot Ted’ was in stunning form last week, firing in many winners, and he is back with his best bets for Tuesday’s action…

Ted’s picks for the week, September 17, 2024:

Find the following picks for the races of the day on Tuesday, September 17. Play on the races with our best expert-rated horse racing betting sites:

Brighton 3.50 – Saint Riquier – bet with SBK

Yarmouth 4.05 – Afloat each way – bet with BetMGM

Yarmouth 5.05 – Thunder Star each way – bet with VBET

Brighton 3.50 – Saint Riquier

SAINT RIQUIER absolutely hosed up when winning on the bridle at Leicester last week, and if arriving in the same vein of form will take a lot of beating. The Ian Williams trained 6-year-old was no mug over Hurdles, rated 128 over the smaller obstacles at his peak, but has looked a rejuvenated character back on the level.

Jockey Joe Leavy has been making a lot of people sit up and take notice with some of his excellent rides lately, and the young pilot is in the saddle once again. Saint Riquier hacked up in an Apprentice race last week, so gets to come into this assignment unpenalised. Trip and ground should be spot on for him, and this combination can prove tough to pass once again.

Yarmouth 4.05 – Afloat each way

To date, it has been a winless year for AFLOAT, but the signs are there that this filly is ready to strike again on the back of an improved display when runner-up at Brighton last week.

That evidence would suggest that she has turned a corner after a spell in the doldrums, and the salient point would be that she now returns to a track where she is two from two over Course and Distance. She got the job done in two visits to the track last year, and looks feasibly treated on that form heading back into a Class 4 event here.

She is versatile in regards to underfoot requirements, so the weather shouldn’t have any great bearing on her performance. Callum Shepherd takes the ride for the Rae Guest team, and it would be far from a surprise if this daughter of Sea The Moon got back in the winner’s enclosure for the first time since last year.

Yarmouth 5.05 – Thunder Star each way

THUNDER STAR hasn’t quite been firing on all cylinders in recent times, but a return to this venue can have a galvanising effect as the 4-year-old boasts an unblemished record of two wins from two starts over Course and Distance, so the filly has to be taken seriously returning to this track.

The Jessica Masey charge enjoys cut in the ground, so any rain will enhance the claims of the daughter of Night Of Thunder who will handle those conditions better than most. Thunder Star didn’t run badly all things considered, when finishing seventh at Haydock 11 days ago – that was her first start for 76 days, so that will more than likely have been a ring-rust removal job, and she should be a lot fitter for that outing.

Also, the accessor has started to act kindly, as purely from a handicapping perspective the filly is looking very well treated. Her last win came when landing this race 12 months ago off a BHA mark of 76, yet she gets to race here off 1lb lower. This will have been the target for some time and she can get the shake-up as an each-way player.
