WWE fans have been desperate for Roman Reigns and The Rock to finally face off inside the ring for years.
The company’s current biggest star Reigns taking on wrestling’s greatest export is a dream matchup and in true WWE fashion, the pair share a deeper connection.

WWE had hoped to have the pair headline WrestleMania 39 in 2023 but plans fell through.
The Rock had looked to have put plans in place for their long-awaited clash in 2024.
The Great One appeared on RAW on New Year’s Day to reference Reigns by hinting that he wants to sit ‘at the head of the table.’
But as of 2025, they still haven’t fought, and nothing has been arranged for a forthcoming clash.
Of course, with WrestleMania 41 coming up this weekend, many will hope for a surprise appearance.
Throughout his appearances on WWE TV, commentators have constantly referred to Reigns being cousins with Dwayne Johnson but is it all smoke and mirrors? talkSPORT.com takes a look…
Are Roman Reigns and The Rock related?
The pair don’t share the same blood, but they belong to the same famous wrestling Anoa’i family and refer to each other as cousins.
The Rock’s grandfather, ‘High Chief’ Peter Maivia, was blood brothers with Reigns and The Usos’ grandfather Reverend Amituana’i Anoa’i.
Other notable WWE stars that are part of the legendary Anoa’i family include Rikishi, Nia Jax and the late Umaga and Yokozuna.

During an interview with on The Pat McAfee Show in September 2023, the Rock said: “The Rock headlining WrestleMania with Roman Reigns, SoFi Stadium, that was locked.
“We were doing it. But let me just tell you, so about the beginning of 2022, Nick Khan, very good friend, he’s the man, he was very instrumental in bringing Vince and I together.
“We all flew to LA, we met, we sat. This was the beginning of 2022.
“We broke out the Teremana, we toasted life, we toasted the business we love, and about an hour later, we started talking about the potential of what this match could be between myself and Roman Reigns headlining WrestleMania at SoFi.”

Rock continued: “We shook hands and we hugged right there, all three of us at the table, and said, ‘Let’s do this.’ So then we had a year to really think about this. So the north star thought was, ‘Okay, let’s not do something good. Let’s not do something great. Let’s do something unprecedented.’
“It was in, what can we create for the fans that has never been done before. A match, great. Roman, incredible athlete.
“He’s gonna be on Mount Rushmore. Super handsome, good dude, my cousin, family. Amazing.
“We can have the match, but the bigger thought was, what can we do for the fans and the business that we love, where WrestleMania isn’t the end of something, it’s actually the beginning of something bigger.”
