Mandela National Stadium, Namboole last hosted the Buganda Masaza cup finale in 2019 before the facility was closed down for renovation.

In 2020, St Mary’s Stadium, hosted the finale with the 2021, 2022 and 2023 finals played at Mutesa II Wankulukuku stadium.

“The finals and third place matches of this year’s Buganda Masaza cup will take place on 2nd November 2024 at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole. The gates will open at 8 am. The third-place match shall kick off at 11am and the finals at 3pm.” Buganda minister of sports, arts and youth, Owek. Robert Serwanga Ssalongo.

Bulemeezi is the reigning champion and sadly will follow the proceedings from the stands after a lackluster performance that witnessed them fail to skip the group stages.

The Masaza Cup tournament was initially started in the 1950’s before resuming lately in 2004.

Players in the top flight (Uganda Premier League), second tier (FUFA Big League) and those on the senior national teams are barred from playing in this tournament to give chance to a crop of budding players.

Since 2004, hundreds of players have proved their potentiality and have deservedly earned slots in Big League and UPL clubs, played professionally outside Uganda’s territories and others have also played for the national senior team (Uganda Cranes).

Players aside, coaches, administrators, media personalities and leaders have been groomed in this tournament.

The tournament lures enviable crowds and has been a trusted source of hefty gate collections for different teams.

Come 2nd November 2024, Mandela National Stadium – Namboole is expected to draw a record capacity crowd as the fanatics passionately watch their teams in action.

His Majesty the Royal King Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II is expected to grace the finale.
