Alex Condon and the Florida Gators are one win away from a national championship.

The Australia native is trying to bring the title back to Gainesville for the first time since 2007.

All that stands in their way is Kelvin Sampson and the tough, battle-tested Houston Cougars, who, after coming back from behind to defeat Duke in historic fashion on Saturday, feel like the team of destiny.

Condon is looking to squash all that.

While his teammate Walter Clayton Jr. has garnered much of the spotlight (deservedly so) and has hit the biggest shots of the tournament, if Florida wants to win its third national championship in program history, they will need their near seven-footer to play to his height.

And Condon looks to be more than up to it.

After all, competitiveness and competing at an elite level run in his blood.

Both of his parents were professional athletes.

Condon’s father, Damien Condon, played professional Australian rules football, while his mother, Leah Condon, was a professional swimmer for Australia’s national team.

Condon himself was born in Perth, western Australia, and attended Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence and the NBA Global Academy in Canberra.

This is the same academy that NBA star Josh Giddey attended, where he emerged as one of the country’s best young players.

Condon is built for this moment.

The sophomore has averaged 10.5 points and 7.6 rebounds in his second year with the Gators.

Florida defeated the no.1 overall seeded Auburn Tigers in the semifinal to reach this moment.

While all the talk is about how tough and gritty Sampson’s Cougars are, these Gators are no slouches.

Walter Clayton Jr. has been Steph Curry reincarnated during this run.

Alijah Martin has stepped up when he’s needed to.
