‘I might have’ – Lewis Hamilton almost forgets he invested in Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy project

Lewis Hamilton enjoys a round of golf, but not enough to remember if he’s invested in it or not.

The sport is hugely popular in Formula 1, with drivers like McLaren’s Lando Norris and Williams’ Carlos Sainz using it as their getaway from the cockpit.

In fact, in 2023, Netflix combined the two sports for the ‘Netflix Cup’ a pro-am tournament where Sainz and Justin Thomas took home top honours.

Hamilton, who’s been spotted on the course with Tom Brady and also fellow Brit Norris, wasn’t in action, and now it’s easy to see why.

In conversation with TIME magazine, the Ferrari driver was asked about the sport and also Tiger Woods’ and Rory McIlroy’s new TGL indoor golf league.

Hamilton clearly wasn’t too familiar with the project and had to have the rules explained, before he was asked if he’d invested in it and replied: “I might have.”

As it turned out, the 40-year-old is among those to put money into the league, joining Sainz, Norris and also Alex Albon.

Albon is dating a professional golfer, Lily Muni He, while Sainz is known to be stellar on the course.

Hamilton’s uncertainty is easy to understand, though, given he has likely the most diverse business portfolio on the grid.

The seven-time champion is a co-owner of the Denver Broncos, has a film production company and his own fashion line while he wouldn’t look out of place on Dragon’s Den due to investments in vegan food and dog food.

There are other golf-F1 crossovers too, with Northern Ireland megastar Rory McIlroy an investor in Alpine alongside huge names like Ryan Reynolds, Patrick Mahomes and Anthony Joshua.

Golf is also a community sport too, and has given Norris the chance to get closer to Hamilton, which talkSPORT asked the younger Brit about in 2023.

“Yeah I think I’ve inspired Lewis,” he jokingly said when asked about their relationship.

“It’s growing [our relationship], I think even over the last couple of months we’ve been getting to know each other a bit more and chatting a bit more and it’s a pretty cool thing.

“I have so much respect for him and what he’s been able to achieve and still so much respect for what he’s doing now.

“I’m not the kind of guy who asks a lot of questions to these kind of people, I do it in a more subtle way to understand how they think and their thought processes, but I’m just happy to spend time with these kind of people who are at the top of whatever sport they’re in.

“It’s difficult when you’re in different teams and I’m not the biggest talker anyway, but he’s been very inspiring, he’s part of the reason I’m a Formula 1 driver today, and part of the reason I wanted to become a Formula 1 driver.

“It’s weird now to be racing against him, and raced quite a bit against him last weekend, so it’s cool, it’s an honour to be racing with him at the same time and it’s a relationship that’s growing and changing because of where he is in his career.

“I think he still has a lot of respect for McLaren, and love for McLaren, which is a nice thing because wherever you started your career you want to do something for them.”
