Cricket Cranes did what they had to in the first two games in Hong Kong China for the second round of the Challenge League B tournament.
The wins against Singapore and Bahrain were expected even though the former tested the Cricket Cranes while Bahrain challenged the bowling of Uganda.
However, given that Uganda’s close competition will most likely pick up wins against the same opposition it is the games amongst that competition that will count.
Uganda plays their close competition back to back with Italy first up tomorrow morning and Hong Kong China a day after. The two games will define the whole campaign for the team.
Uganda has made changes for both games played so far. Bilal Hassun was the preferred extra bowler in the game against Bahrain but he was the one to make way for Henry Ssenyondo in the game against Singapore. The small Kowloon Cricket Club grounds might influence another change for Uganda especially if they want more slow bowling options.
Raghav Dhawan had a tough start for the Cricket Cranes, especially during the 1first round of the Challenge League in Kampala but his back-to-back half-centuries make him the go-to man for runs. To completely silence his doubters, Dhawan will need to score against teams like Italy or Hong Kong China for him to win the hearts of local fans who are hard to please. Alpesh Ramjani got a half-century in the win against Singapore after being promoted up the order while both openers Robinson Obuya and Shrideep Mangela have had starts but are yet to convert.
Henry Ssenyondo made a strong case for his inclusion in the clash against Italy and the last time the two sides met in Uganda. He won the Player of the Match award with some inspired bowling. His inclusion though would mean that Uganda still uses just the two pace bowlers Juma Miyagi and Cosmas Kyewuta with Kenneth Waiswa playing a complementary role.
Italy has Uganda in their sights, they are only two points behind Uganda and have a superior Net Run Rate which means a win against Uganda tomorrow will push them to the top of the table. Uganda cannot afford to lose this game and knows that a win will give them some more leverage between themselves and the chasing pack.
