Iceland v Wales predictions

Wales travel to Iceland on Friday night looking to keep their unbeaten record in the new Nations League campaign in check, having picked up four points from their opening two matches in Group B4 this season.

Craig Bellamy will be taking part of his third game in charge of his national team on Friday night having taken over from Rob Page, who departed after failing to qualify for Euro 2024 last summer.

Bellamy’s first game in charge came last month in a respectable 0-0 draw at home against a Turkey side who reached the last eight of the Euros, and was followed up by a 2-1 win in Montenegro, with both Welsh goals coming in the opening three minutes of the match.

The results leaves the Dragons in second place in the group behind Turkey, with only goal difference separating the top two, giving the Welshmen a chance to open up a gap on the bottom two with victory in Reykjavik on Friday as they eye promotion back to League A at the first time of asking.

Wales make the trip into the Arctic circle having lost only one of their last 12 matches in 90 minutes.

Iceland prepare for the visit of Wales having picked up three points from their opening Nations League matches, winning 2-0 at home against Montenegro before being defeated 3-1 away from home by Turkey.

Like Wales, Iceland fell at the final hurdle in their qualification for Euro 2024 last summer, losing in their play-off final to Ukraine.

Age Hareide’s side have won three of their last four matches at home, drawing the other, so will take some confidence into Friday night’s outing as they look to upset the odds and leapfrog Wales in the Group B4 table.

Despite their impressive home form, the Icelandics have lost four of their last six competitive matches, and Wales’ superior squad strength should shine through in Reykjavik on Friday night.

Wales return home for a match against Montenegro in Cardiff on Monday night, and six points from this week’s international break would leave them looking very good for a promotion challenge ahead of the final two round of fixtures next month.

Wales have won the last four meetings between the two sides bet haven’t met since a 3-1 victory in Cardiff in a friendly back in 2014, and a similar scoreline can likely be expected on Friday, with a 2-1 Wales win looking like a sensible bet away from home.

Iceland v Wales betting tips

Kieffer Moore is Wales’ top international goal scorer in the squad named by Bellamy for this weekend’s upcoming fixtures, and even scored the first goal of the Bellamy era in a 2-1 win in Montenegro last month.

Wales’ impressive record of having lost only one of their last 12 matches in 90 over the course of more than a year shows confidence levels are high ahead of their trip to Reykjavik, where they will expect to keep that run going with victory to aid their promotion push.
