The motorsport governing body FMU has reached a significant step in solving its issues with the Inspectorate of Government.
The IG froze the federation bank accounts in August 2024 following a petition by some members of the federation who accused the Excom of financial misappropriation of government funds.
The first time was early last year and were unfrozen in May to allow the smooth organisation of Pearl of Africa rally.
The said petitions came from former driver Geoffrey Nsamba and former Presidents of the federation.
The IG held a boardroom meeting on Wednesday involving FMU members and the petitioners to communicate the latest update in the investigation of the federation.
The big outcome was the unfreezing of the FMU accounts among other directives.
“We have therefore agreed to; vacate the IGG’s orders and to unfreeze all FMU bank accounts, vacate the order to NCS and PS/TS not to release funds to FMU,” said the IG.
The IG however, stated that her office will continue with investigation on allegations of financial impropriety in management of FMU funds.
The IG further stated the matters that influenced the decision including the repercussions of Uganda failing to meet its financial obligations at the FIA as well as the possible inability to participate in regional and international events.
