For the first time of asking, the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) held a successful golf tournament on Saturday, 12th October 2014 at the state-of-art Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa in Kigo.

The day-long championship that was initially blessed by a shower of rains witnessed both the juniors and adult players in action.

This tournament offered a unique experience of both the experienced golfers and newcomers to come together for a fun and engaging day on the greens, luring all the 66 members of the American Chamber of Commerce Uganda.

“The AmCham Uganda golf championship was a success. There was a setting to network, share experiences and create lasting connections within Ugandan and international business community, all in a relaxed and enjoyable environment” Eve Zalwango, the general manager of AmCham Uganda stated.

The juniors too featured in this tournament with on-site golf clinics for newcomers on board which presented a fantastic opportunity to learn the basics of this drive, swing, chip and putt game.

“The tournament was a successful as the juniors and the adults featured. Besides the early rains, the tournament progressed well and we look forward the second edition” Les Brown, the tournament director.

Top performers:

Olivia Ahumuza, playing off handicap 36 was over all winner with 62 nett to earn a fully paid for return air ticket from Brussels Airlines.

The corporates cluster was won by Side B partners who scored 71.5 nett ahead of Sheraton Hotel (75.5) and Stanbic Bank (80.5).

Groups outstanding golfers:

Charles Hamya (handicap 5) championed the men group A with 75 Nett. Arthur Kiwanuka (handicap 9) and Paul Ntaganda (handicap 6) were second and third with 79 and 82 nett scores respectively.

Eng. John Byabagambi (handicap 12) won the men group B with 72 Nett ahead of Christopher Schrim and David Odiam who scored 73 apiece.

In group C men, handicap 22 golfer Benon Kigozi amassed 64 Nett to win over Alexander Drey (70) and Regis Vellaud (73).

Ladies:

Patricia Nakasi won the ladies pool A with 75 nett; as Maria Odido and Jackie Kwesiga followed suit with 78 and 80 nett scores respectively.

Dinah Achen was outstanding in group B with 82 nett, ahead of Happiness Daher (87) and Helen Lunkuse (90).

The longest drive contest was claimed by Patrick Matu.

Juniors:

18 Holes (Boys):

Banza Matsiko won the 18 holes’ contest for the boys after scoring 81 Nett.

Shansank Sachin Gadre and Gavin Bwambale each scored 84 nett apiece to follow Matsiko.

18 Holes (Girls):

The girls’ 18 holes competition was won by Harsshitha Loganathan with 86 Nett. Ariana Bholim (89) came second and Pauline Umamaria (105) was third.

9 Holes (Boys):

Timothy Tayebwa (43 Nett) emerged top in the boys’ 9 holes event ahead of Humuza Buka (45) and Karlton Tayebwa (46).

9 Holes (Girls):

Hannah Matsiko won the girls’ 9 holes pool with 44 Nett, a point better than Arianna Jenny Tumwesigye and Elizabeth Mwagale (49).

9 Holes (Girls Above 15 years):

In the section of girls above 15 years for 9 holes, it was Ketra Kankunda was shone brightest with 50 Nett, one point better than Grace Mbabazi Ampumuza and two off the second placed Precious Juliet Kobugabe.

Event partners:

American Chamber of Commerce Uganda were the main organizers joined by associate of partners.

Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa, Coca Cola Beverages Uganda, Crowe, Grant Thornton, Marsh, Sheraton Kampala Hotel, Stanbic Bank, Side B, Motorcare, Rim Uganda, Life Care Diagnostics, Brussels Airlines, Ruby Hospital, Latitude 0o among others, all joined hands for a successful event.

Over 250 participants (junior and adult golfers as well as other guests) were directly involved in this tournament.

The American Chamber of Commerce Uganda’s role is to push for policy, do business, connect investments between Uganda and the United States of America (USA).
