Canelo Alvarez has branded Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson an ‘injustice’ and said the controversial fight made him consider accepting Paul’s call-out.
The Mexican superstar was among tens of millions of interested observers who last month watched the 27-year-old YouTuber-turned-boxer beat the 58-year-old heavyweight legend by unanimous decision.
Many branded the fight a ‘sad’ spectacle as the aged Tyson tired after just a couple of the two-minute rounds.
Paul seemingly took it easy on him for the remainder of the bout and did not pursue a KO.
“You know, I feel sad about what I saw from Mike Tyson,” Canelo told reporters about the fight on Thursday.
“Because at his age and everything, he can’t do that kind of stuff.
“But it’s business for them and it’s fine, whatever.”
Canelo was then asked if seeing Paul beat Tyson motivated him to seek revenge on Iron Mike’s behalf.
He answered: “I [did] think about it when I saw the fight, when I see that injustice.
“But we’ll see.”
As things stand, Canelo’s next move is unclear.
There has been some speculation on social media in recent days that he could be negotiating a possible fight with Terence Crawford.
However, when asked if there is any truth to this, Canelo replied: “No, now I’m working on other things.
“Now I’m enjoying my family, I’m not talking about boxing yet.
“Maybe in January we’re gonna start doing that.”
Whether Paul is a realistic option remains to be seen.
The YouTuber-turned-boxer has repeatedly called the Mexican star out in the past, though was slightly quieter in his post-fight interview after beating Tyson.
“Canelo needs me, so I’m not even going to try and call him out,” he said in the ring.
“He knows he wants a payday. So, he knows where the money man is at…
“He’s going to want a payday and I want to show the world all the [stuff] I’ve been talking about beating Canelo is true and I’ll have the biggest upset in the history of boxing.
“We’ll fight to really see who is the face [of boxing] because, after this event, I’m going to be claiming it.”
Paul doubled down a few days later and told UFC star Sean O’Malley on his podcast that he believes he is ready to dethrone the super-middleweight king.
“Me versus Canelo at 200lbs for the cruiserweight championship, that makes so much sense,” he insisted.
“Canelo is on his way out or he’s going to want a payday, and I want to show the world all the s*** I’ve been talking about beating Canelo is actually true…
“I’ll have the biggest upset in the sport of boxing, and we will fight to really see who the face is. I beat his gate record in Texas, I’m beating ticket sales, I have more followers than him.
“I’m gonna be the new money man. This fight should be for a belt it makes the most sense at cruiserweight.”
