Arsenal continue their Champions League campaign later this week against Inter Milan, and it’s live on talkSPORT.

It’s a daunting trip at the best times, but with the Gunners winless in their last three Premier League matches, the Champions League is starting to become more and more important for Mikel Arteta.

At the weekend, the Spaniard cut a frustrated figure as his side fell to a 1-0 defeat at Newcastle in the Premier League to leave them seven points off the top of the table.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan are second in Serie A after a stellar start to the season.

Simone Inzaghi‘s side are extremely well-drilled and have talent all over the pitch.

In the Champions League, they’ve already faced Manchester City and claimed a goalless draw at the Etihad.

And they’ll feel confident of claiming three points on home soil.

Inter Milan vs Arsenal: Wobbling Gunners

Even without Martin Odegaard, there aren’t many who would have said that Arsenal would take just a point from games against Bournemouth, Newcastle and Liverpool.

But that is what has happened, and they’ve now lost significant ground in the title race.

Of course, against the Cherries, they had William Saliba sent off but still only had one shot on target, which was all they managed against Newcastle as well.

City have since lost away to Bournemouth, while the Toon under Eddie Howe don’t often lose at St James’ Park.

But these are still games where real title contenders would expect to at least take a point.

There is still a long way to go, but perhaps the Champions League could be Arsenal’s best bet to win a major trophy.

Arsenal created nothing of note against Newcastle
  • Internazionale and Arsenal only met previously in the 2003-04 UEFA Champions League – both games were away wins (Arsenal 0-3 Inter, Inter 1-5 Arsenal).
  • Arsenal have failed to score in each of their last four away UEFA Champions League games in Italy (D1 L3), with Emmanuel Adebayor the last Gunners player to score there in a 2-0 win over Milan in March 2008.
  • Although only five teams have faced more shots in the UEFA Champions League this season than Internazionale (53), they have kept three clean sheets so far. They have never kept four in a row in their European Cup history.

  • All three of Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League goals this season have come in the first half. In the second half of matches, they have had only nine shots, with only Sparta Prague having fewer (8).

Inter Milan vs Arsenal: Team news

Alessandro Bastoni was withdrawn at the weekend, but it has since been revealed it was just cramp.

As a result, Carlos Augusto is set to be the hosts’ only injury absentee with a hamstring problem.

For the Gunners, Odegaard hopes to be in contention.

But Arteta remains without Riccardo Calafiori and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Inter Milan vs Arsenal: What has been said?

Speaking after the defeat to Newcastle to talkSPORT’s Sam Matterface, Arteta wasn’t in the mood for too many questions.

He said: “The damage is that we feel disappointed because we didn’t get the result and the performance that we needed to win here.

“I thought we started really well and were very dominant.

“We were on top of the match, and in one action, they put the ball in and scored a goal.

“After that, the game changes, the energy changes, and you get dragged into a game they want to play.

“Chances-wise, I thought they created nothing and the big chances we created, we didn’t take.

“We have to be more clinical and more ruthless and purpose to damage the opposition.”
