Ipswich pulled off an incredible result with a win at Tottenham on Sunday afternoon, and were in jokey mood afterwards.
That’s because the Tractor Boys pulled off a second victory over the day as they made a cheeky dig at the expense of James Maddison.
The newly-promoted side travelled to north London and shocked the football world with a 2-1 victory over Ange Postecoglou‘s side.
But after their win they couldn’t resist taking aim at Maddison on social media.
Taking to X, Ipswich’s official account shared a picture of the England midfielder tugging on the shirt of Omari Hutchinson.
The club then wrote: “It’s much easier to get a Hutchinson shirt by going to our online store,” with two hearts and a link to their online store.
While the post was in reference to Ipswich’s victory over Tottenham, it was also a dig at a midfielder who famously played for their fierce rivals.
That’s because he represented Ipswich’s East Anglian rivals Norwich for over two years before completing a move to Leicester in 2018.
But while now with Tottenham, the England international could do nothing to stop Ipswich from claiming a surprise win.
Sammie Szmodics and Liam Delap put Kieran McKenna‘s side 2-0 up before half time, leaving the home fans stunned.
Rodrigo Bentancur clawed one back, but it wasn’t enough as Postecoglou’s side were dealt a damaging defeat.
The Spurs boss said: “Hugely disappointing. We started slow and passively. We gave ourselves a mountain to climb. Second half we had chances but didn’t do enough to win the game. It’s just down to me. I’m not getting consistent performances from the players.
“It’s something I need to address. I’m the person in charge so that’s usually the way it goes. I take responsibility. We can’t give ourselves those kind of mountains to climb.”
Tottenham go into the international break in tenth place in the Premier League with five wins from 11 games.
