‘It’s mind boggling’ – Everyone says pimento cheese is best Masters food but this $1.50 fan favorite is real steal at Augusta

The Masters is filled with tradition.

From old-fashioned rules to hidden secrets, the annual return to Augusta National Golf Club is one of the biggest sports events of the year.

But few things drive social media crazy like The Masters‘ throwback food prices — especially in 2025.

While global financial markets flutter in a new ‘tarrif’ era, a fan walking around The Masters can still eat very well without spending much money.

A breakfast sandwich is only $3, while a cup of ‘Masters Blend Fresh Brewed Coffee’ is $2.

For many longtime Masters attendees, the pimento cheese sandwich is the best bet — and it only costs $1.50.

But Bob Bubka has been covering The Masters for decades — including watching Tiger Woods at his peak — and talkSPORT’s voice of golf believes that one low-cost item is even better than the famous pimento cheese.

“Most people love the pimento cheese,” Bubka exclusively told talkSPORT.

“I happen to be a huge favorite of the egg salad.

“That’s $1.50. You go to buy one and they say, ‘$1.50.’ You look at them like, ‘What the heck is going on here? Am I in a time warp or something?’ “

A ‘Pork Bar-B-Que’ sandwich rises to $3, and that’s the same price for a Masters Club, Chicken Salad on Honey Wheat bread, or Classic Chicken.

The most expensive items are alcoholic drinks.

But $6 for domestic and import beer, white wine, and a Masters Crows Nest is highly affordable in the new tariff-era.

Apple slices and potato chips (plain and BBQ) are the same price as pimento cheese and egg salad sandwiches.

“Why can’t all places be like this,” one fan tweeted.

“I’d gladly buy the whole menu if I ever get a ticket before I die,” a second fan posted.

“Not serving Arnold Palmers is a travesty,” a third fan wrote.

Bubka is also particularly fond of The Masters’ unique rules, which prioritize golfing and the beauty of the course over allowing fans to go everywhere all of the time.

“Where’d you ever hear of a golf tournament where you can’t sit on the grass?” Bubka said.

No sitting allowed at The Masters on the grass.”

And don’t try to move someone’s chair, Bubka said.

“As soon as the gates open, they (fans) walk, because no running is allowed — and I mean no running allowed — and they walk to their spot on 16,” he said.

“You’re not going to believe this. They take their chair, they put it down. It’s 8 o’clock in the morning.

“They can come back at noon, that chair will be in that exact same spot. Nobody will dare move it. And that’s just how it goes down there.”

With Georgia Pecan Caramel Popcorn only costing $2 and a Georgia Peach Ice Cream Sandwich being a highly affordable $3, there’s nothing else like the Masters.

Add in Bubka’s personal favorite egg salad sandwich for just $1.50, and there’s a reason that attending Augusta is a lifelong dream for golf fans around the world.

“It’s just amazing from the start, in the middle, at the end, and even after the end,” Bubka said.

“I mean, it’s just mind boggling.”

The 2025 Masters runs Thursday through Sunday.

Bryson DeChambeau, Collin Morikawa, Jon Rahm, Ludvig Aberg Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler are favorites to win this year.
