Whilst filming for Top Gear, the open-topped Morgan Super 3 Flintoff was driving flipped during a stunt.

He had to be airlifted to hospital after suffering broken ribs and serious facial injuries.

Footage from a new Disney+ documentary has shown a picture from the aftermath of the crash.

In the photo, the vehicle can be seen off the track as what appears to be paramedics attend to Flintoff.

It is the first time an image from the accident has been made public – and hints that there could be more to come in the documentary.

Reflecting on the crash, Flintoff said: “I remember everything about it. It’s so vivid.

“This is what I’m left with… I wouldn’t say I’m embracing them but I’m not trying to hide my scars.”

The 47-year-old largely remained out of the public eye as he recovered from his injuries.

He added: “I’d lived under the radar for seven months, one of the real frustrations was the speculation, that’s why I’m doing this now.

“What actually happened?”

After returning to the England set-up in a coaching role, he was named the new England Lions coach in September.

Flintoff has also hosted a revival of the popular TV gameshow Bullseye since the accident.

Discussing moving on from the ordeal, he explained: “It’s almost like a reset. I’m trying to find out what I am now. I’ve always seemed to be able to flick a switch. I’ve got to find that switch again.”

Being able to get back into cricket has also helped the former all-rounder carry on with his life.

Flintoff continued: “Cricket’s always been a massive part of my life, shaping who I am.

“Looking back on the highs and the lows, including the challenges I’ve faced since my accident, has been a real reminder of why my career in the sport has meant so much.”

The new 90-minute documentary, titled ‘Flintoff’, is set to be released on Disney+ on April 25.

A tagline for the film describes it as ‘His story. Unfiltered. Untold. Unfinished.”
