The US Open semi-finalist was beaten 6-7 5-7 by the Canadian to deal even more misery to Great Britain in the competition.

Draper first faced Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina in Group D on Friday but also fell to a 6-7 5-7 defeat on home soil.

Sunday’s match against Auger-Aliassime presented him with a chance of redemption at the Manchester Arena.

However, he lost in straight sets again and at the end of the first set, his frustrations were clear to see.

During the tiebreak, Draper sent his backhand beyond the baseline and out to hand Auger-Aliassime the advantage.

The 22-year-old took his anger out on his racket by smashing it onto the court a total of six times, destroying it in the process.

He then kicked it to the side of the court, with debris being cleared before the start of the second set.

Draper fought hard to level the match but Auger-Aliassime came out on top, doing so with an ace in his match-winning point.

Canada’s win is their second against Great Britain on Sunday after Denis Shapovalov beat Dan Evans 6-0 7-5.

Evans will return to action later in the day for the doubles match with Neal Skupski against Auger-Aliassime and Shapovalov.

However, Canada’s wins in the singles mean they will advance to the Davis Cup finals in Malaga in November regardless of the doubles result.

They won all three of their ties in the group, with Great Britain only able to defeat Finland.

Draper’s loss on Sunday has come a little over a week since he lost his US Open semi-final to eventual champion Jannik Sinner 7-5 7-6 6-2.

The Brit was appearing in the final four of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career but was beaten in straight sets.

Draper vomited on the court four times, seemingly due to the humidity in New York.

However, he carried on playing and completed the match in full in a testament to his determination on the court.
