JKL Lady Dolphins 62-51 UCU Lady Canons (Lady Dolphins lead series 3-2)
JKL Lady Dolphins are on track to defend the National Basketball League title after defeating UCU Lady Canons 62-51 in Game 5 on Friday at Lugogo.
With the victory, the Lady Dolphins now lead the seven-game series 3-2.
The opening quarter was closely contested but the defending champions took charge in the second period thanks largely to Jane Asinde who cleaned the offensive glass to help her side get multiple second-chance opportunities.
Despite Lady Canons’ improvement in the second half, JKL’s 9-point (35-26) halftime lead left them in control the rest of the game.
UCU, on the other hand, struggled with taking care of the ball with guards Shakira Nanvubya and Tracey Namugosa always trapped and the outcome was 26 team turnovers.
Nanvubya, the only Lady Canon to score in double figures, finished with a game-high 16 points.
Hope Akello recorded a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Lady Dolphins. Jane Asinde had 11 points and 10 rebounds while Rita Imanishimwe and Brenda Ekone chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively.
Game 6 will be played on Friday, 20th September.
